IMHO, the spindle is a very worthy upgrade. Why? Much lower sound level, precise RPM control from the WinCNC software, many more collet size options to broaden the tooling choices, long life, etc....

TinKnocker, AFAIK, the masking tape and CA method will work just fine on the MDF, although I suspect one might want to keep it pretty clean/surfaced...
