Default Touch pad

Today while setting my bit z axis I hit the "z zero" button on wincnc. The bit went down and touched the touch pad like it is suppose to do. When it lifted off i noticed it left a small dimple in the touch pad. Is there a way to adjust the down pressure or is this normal. I was using 90 degree v bit.

You can slow the Z feed rate to minimize the contact but the dimples are normal.

John, when I first started using my machine I used the touch top because it was there and I thought that was the best way. I cannot remember the last time I used the touch top or the "shiny thing" as some have called it. If you set your Z zero at the spoilboard than there is less chance of digging into the spoil board. Have a look at this posting from a few years back on the subject.

Cheers.

There are many instances in which Z zero is best referenced to the top of the workpiece rather than the spoil board.
