Default New Drag Knife

Got a new one out.

About half the price of the leading brand and some cool features of it's own. Unique construction with single piece solid AL body, 2 double sealed bearing. It uses #19 Heavy Duty X-Acto blades which are the same thickness as utility blades (.025") and inexpensive (couple bucks for a 5 pk.). Blade change is easy and blade is located into position with dowels.

Cuts 1/8" material, offset is 3.0 (~1/8")

Thanks for looking!

Hey Cosmos, looks like you've created another quality product.

I've been considering a drag knife for cutting stencils and veneer. Your new drag knife looks useful for these purposes. How are you handling sharp corners? is the brand D Vectric PP out there usable with your drag knife or are you going to provide a Vectric PP too? or..?

Thanks

That's a nice looking tool...very well done. How intricate can the cuts get?

Mike, thanks for the compliment. I have to focus on quality or the wife will make me get a real job again!!

Great questions guys and I'm not sure I can answer them well. In general, this tool will perform like other with a 1/8" offset. The blade is 45 degrees and the same thickness as a utility blade, so should be the same as others out there. If you can add 1/8" radii to the design, it should be able to cut it. If you have it make a sharp corner, you'll get something like a 1/8" radius. If you want one with a smaller offset, I can make one, but I think the material thickness goes down with the offset.

I've used a post processor that I made for my pen marking tool with it and it works. It just a copy of my normal post but with the spindle disables. Brand D.. same thing. Their youtube video shows you how to do it.

Vectric VCP and Aspire has a Drag Knife Gadget that is very cool. It will program some extra moves to orient the blade so I think the cornering quality can be improved using that gadget.

Well, look at that. Right there in Aspire is an option in the filet tool to add drag knife loops to sharp corners. Simply modify the PP to not turn the spindle on and you're in business (I think). Without the filet loops you'd get 1/8 rounded corners, which is probably fine for many cases. So all's good. Man, this is so simple even I can figure it out!

Pretty cool Cos. How are you cutting the slot? Do you have a wire EDM?

No EDM.. that would be nice! I use a big jewelers slotting saw.. carefully. It's a slow process but it comes out really nice.

That's impressive. No way I could do that. I'm pretty good cutting a straight line with a dovetail saw, that's about it!

LOL! For some reason a coping type saw popped into my head and I thought, damn he's good! I'm glad you're a mere mortal like the rest of us. :)
