One my of customers makes specialty portable drum kits. They are pretty robust - made of baltic birch, glued together with lots of metal hardware to keep it all tight. He was invited to an exposition in the UK. He packed 2 of his kits in wooden crates, marked "fragile" and "this end up". The kit itself is a box that is designed to be beaten on with sticks, so pretty well built.

Both boxes were forked on the way over, one on the top and one on the bottom. Forks went completely through the wood crate and through the baltic birch, which is not a fragile material. Both kits were destroyed. Then, they lost one of the kits sending it back. This was UPS again.

I've also had UPS destroy a heavily-built wooden crate containing a custom bed by dropping it off a forklift.

I won't use UPS again. Unfortunately, doesn't sound like any of the others are much better.

You mean I have been paying for a drug and I can get the same effect from a ride in truck...and maybe even see California on my way home??? DOH!

Sadly, TR, I dont think most people do care anymore. But...Im happy Shanes machine is coming home, and still in time for Christmas! I just hope the freezer isnt turned on......

Shane, take Bruces advice and look that crate over with a fine tooth comb. I would even make the driver wait until you can pop off the top and look inside for any hidden damage. Best of luck to you with your new machine!
