One of my other hobbies is electronics, and I gave myself a challenge to create an automatic blast gate and DC controller using an Arduino. I wanted to be able to turn on my table saw and have the blast gate open, and then for the DC to turn on via remote control RF signal. Then, when I turn off the saw I wanted the DC to stay running for a programmable number of seconds, then turn off and close the gate. Lastly, I didn't want to be electrically intrusive to either my DC or my saw, that is, I didn't want anything hard wired to those circuits.
Attached is a detailed description of my experimentation, prototyping, build, and final product. It has been working flawlessly ever since.

Dan, that is quite impressive! Sure wish you lived closer to S Ga and did contractor work!

Here are a couple of photos of my setup. Pay no attention to the sophisticated mounting I have for the Lone Ranger relay. My DC is 220V, located in a garage under my workshop. The DC plugs into the Lone Ranger relay and the main power switch on the DC is left on. I have blast gates at each machine so easy to turn them on or off or leave one open or partially open if needed to cut down suction to a smaller machine. I have 6" pipe to the drops which are then sized for the individual tool, I've found 4" to work fine on most everything but have a couple of smaller 2" drops.

Good luck Keith on your project. Edited to add that I just noticed I'm about 40 miles west of you in Romney, WV.

I have a 3hp Oneida system. I did have to get the Long Ranger Heavy Duty remote to handle the higher hp motor and it does a very nice job. I believe it will handle up to a 7.5hp motor, fwiw.

Dan, my compliments on some very talented electrical / electronics design. Very impressive!

Thumbs up Thank You All

I appreciate everyone's sharing of the blast gates they use and/or build along with the suggestions and comments. Muchas Gracias mis amigos.

I just bought and installed the iVac pro system which i purchased at Infinity tools. It was an easy install seems and to work great. My shop is upstairs and the dust collector is downstairs, each tool has a blast gate and a unit that senses power flow thru the cord. The sensor opens the associated gate and turns on the dust collector via RF. The dust collector and blast gate timing is set to leave it on several seconds after the tool is turned off. We'll see how this performs over time but I like it so far.
