Default Vacuum fixture

Ok I have to share this. I went to Joe Woodworker web site and bought the excel 5 oil less vacuum pump and hooked it up to my Corian table top "vacuum table". I was using a cheap oil spitting pump which was 2x as loud as this awesome oil less one.

This works like a charm, I am so glad I got away from the screwing it or clamping it down method. I also use stainless steel pins in the holes on the table to make sure it's in the exact spot if I have to recut something on it. I cut all my material with the "onion skin" method, leaving about a thousandth on it. This method now makes me even happier when I am working on the machine. I also have a foot pedal to turn it on and off.

Oh, there are 3 zones. I use the middle one to mainly cut. The one on the right I use for clamping the work down to sand it. It's the coolest thing ever (I don't get out much)

Bob,
That is a really nice looking setup. Without the MDF the elevation of the table must be significantly less influenced by the weather? What is the size and type of gasket material you are using?
Thanks for sharing.

Here is the link for the gasket. It's the 1/4 inch one.

There doesn't seem to be any movement issues in regards to the table thickness.

Hey Bob,

That looks like a fabulous approach for medium to small parts/jigs (my most important use case). Is it useful for sheet goods too? I assume not, but wanted to confirm rather than assume.

Thanks!

Haven't tried but i don't see why it wouldn't. I'd be afraid of accidentally cutting into the table top by mistake. It's nice to have that mdf buffer in between the work and the vac table. It works great for small projects.

Makes sense. I'd be a little concerned about that too. Thanks!

The source I use for gasketing is Allstar Adhesives.
