Default Vacuum table 2.0

So I ditched the Corian vacuum top. I assumed that the Corian was perfectly flat, wrong. It was a thousandth off here and there so it drove me crazy. I decided to replace it with a 48x48 piece of HDPE. It turned out great. I just make small/medium signs mostly Corian now so I just leave an onion skin on them.

Great idea Bob!
- How wide/deep are your channels
- What type/size gasket for seal

The channels are 1/4 inch wide and .1875 deep. I use a 1/4 inch gasket. I use the Joe Woodworker vacuum set up. There are also 1/4 inch holes in the HDPE that I use 1/4 inch stainless steel pins so I can put the work back in the exact position if I need to do multiple pourings of epoxy. I used a 1/4 ball nose for the channels.

Bob, is the HDPE more uniform than the Corian? I was surprised...would have thought the Corian would be dead flat. Go figure!

I was afraid to "plane" the Corian with the machine. I figured that a 48x48 piece of HDPE would work/look better then the 48x30 Corian (and I'm a bit OCD). Haha. I was also reading that there is a bit of movement with the Corian and temperature.

I was also trying to make the squares smaller so I could hold smaller pieces down. These are 1 inch.

I can send you the vetric file if you are interested.

Did you plane the hdpe? I would think that would be about the same as the Corian from that aspect. But...I am just "thinking" whereas you are actually doing, so I will learn from your expertise!

I appreciate the offer for the files, but I am doing just fine with the previous ones you sent me...in that "not really flat Corian"! Hah. I may take your advice and shrink my squares down to 1" I currently have them at 1.5"

Oh yeah....the new vac table looks awesome! Maybe you should start selling vac tables along with your beautiful signs.

Yup I planed the HDPE, it looked like the sit on Santa's lap at the food court in the mall in my garage. Had to turn off my dust collector because all the plastic shavings were sticking together like Velcro. It was a disaster, hopefully won't ever have to plane hdpe ever again haha. But now I know it's perfectly flat which makes me smile. Plus I have never worked with it so it was an "on the fly" feeds and speeds guessing game. It's pretty bad when you are googling feeds and speeds in the middle of Mick Martin spoil board wizard. (But it made for an exciting experience).

Also with the hdpe I had more of it to work with being its .75 and the Corian is only .5.
