Default Router Bit for Texturing

I've got a new project where I'm texturing the background with a 1/2" rounded bit. The cut will be shallow (I think it's set up for something like 0.03").

Does it make a big difference in the quality of the cut, or anything else, if I were to use a straight flute on a core box bit, or a spiral flute on a ball nose bit?

I'd always use a corebox bit, as they are so much cheaper. If it's a sharp, quality bit, you should still get a very good finish.
