Default bumps in th y travel

after installing the gantry and transmission to our panther 404 w/atc, gantry had to ship unassembled to get in our door way.

when manually moving the gantry (y axis) we noticed some bumps in the travel, almost like it was stopped by something/interference. after looking closer, found many metal chips - on the hsd, gantry area, cable trough, etc. vacuumed off as well we could. looked closely at the y transmission for particles in there but couldn't see any.

is it common to have bumps when moving the gantry in the y axis power off?

short answer is No albeit I am not quite certain what would qualify as "bumps". This should be smooth travel and will feel as such to your hand if placed on the unit as it moves.

Is it possible you are seeing shavings from fabrication? While this would be unusual, as I have seen how they clean these machines before shipping, it would not be unreasonable to see how some shavings from fabrication could get missed. How is your spring tension applying pressure to the gear/rail? If this is not to spec, you will not get smooth travel as the teeth on this gear will actually ride up on the rail teeth without being properly seated in the groove. I would follow up with tech and have them walk you thru each installation process so you can be assured you have everything set to factory spec.
