Is sealing against dirt and dust much of a big deal with a newer SSD hard drive? With no moving parts, would today's computers be any more susceptible to failure than the controller components?

Sealed fanless is a great idea & recommended.

The things that get wiped out from dust infiltration are:

1) Fan cooled computer power supply
2) Any optical drive
3) PCI/PCI-E slots

I've never had a hard drive get wiped because there was dust in the PC. Hard drives are all sealed...SSD or otherwise.

You haven't lived until you've seen blue sparks shoot out of a dusty PC power'll wake you up right quick. Smells dee-licious too!
