Default Laminated MDF

I am going to build some detailed shelves out of laminated mdf. I have a few questions. Is all laminated mdf the same? I don't want to go to the local big box store and buy some garbage that will fall apart right away. Secondly, what kind of 1/4' tool should I use and a what rpm and feed rate? Lastly, is the "iron on" edging a quality product?

Some "Melamine" (Thermafoil) is better than others, basically you should not have a problem,

to get a good (both sides) cut it is best to use a Compression bit, I far prefer a 3/8ths but a 1/4 inch works well, I cut at 15-16 k rpm and 400 ipm

for a really good cut run one file to cut thru to say .7 of a .75 material, make sure first pass is deeper than the end flutes of the compression bit, (Generally about .25" +) then run a second file with a start depth of .7 and a cut of .055 the vac will hold well and there will not be a lot of cut pressure on the last pass..

if you want to use a .25 down spiral then cut to say .72 leaving and "onion Skin" and cut parts out with a razor and just sand off edge with a 120gr block.

Iron on in big box stores can be pretty dry and not hold so well, may want to purchase from one of the better known woodworking sites (woodcraft, formwood, I like wisewood) the adhesive quality will be better, iron on can be good it is up to the adhesive

Wisewood may not have white pvc or mel EB. Fast cap has a preglued peel and stick we use a lot of for field work (good stuff)

edgeco is another good one http://www.edgecoinc.com/edgeco_form.asp

Mick may be right, you may want to find a cabinet supplies wholesaler, (not in ones normal shopping) in your area, what city are you in?
