Default Corian motherload

Picked up this batch of corian I found on craigslist today, guy was nearly giving it away and I was glad to take it off his hands. Probably well over $1K worth of material, I have even more not pictured that I didn't load off my truck yet.

I make lots of things with corian, not just lithos ... Quite a variety here, that blue stuff looks great, and a couple sheets of white suitable for lithos. Most of it has rounded edging which is a PIMA, would greatly prefer flat. Tried to cut some off with a razor, but that adhesive is not meant to come off.
Could try a MAP torch, but that would likely ruin the corian anyhow in that area, so I'll probably just end up sawing off the roundovers so I can have flat sheets to work with.

All is .5, I could bandsaw some in half if needed for lithos, or I could glue 2 together if I need it thicker for 3D. This guy is a counter installer and says he accumulates "scrap" like this just about every month, I told him to give me a holler when he gets another load - Tough to resist stockpiling this stuff at giveaway prices. Is actual corian, not off brand.

Quickly made some grips out of the blue, nice stuff.

As I thought, the edging on this stuff is not going to razor off, I used a circular saw to get one peice clean but very messy, so I'm going to try MAPP next and see how that goes.

Noticed this nice rainbow as I was out cutting corian, pot of gold still very elusive !

Those are nice big pieces too. Nice find. I get a lot of free scrap too but most of it is not that big. I have found it easiest just to saw off any rounded edges.

Got tied up and couldn't get the MAPP today, am going to try it but am not holding out high hopes that it will work.
Sawing works just fine, very messy and wasteful though. I think I'll throw down a tarp under the saw horses to try to contain the mess a bit, just flies around like snow when cutting.

Here are the 1911 files I use, not my work credit goes to "srwtlc" [Scott] on SB forum

Another set I did for fun, dragon skin texture with iron cross. I use a clear coat on these, looks like some of the corian dust from cutting earlier stuck on them.

These turned out too thick for some reason, I think when I added the cross it doubled the base height, they are about 50% thicker than the first pair, not sure if they'd even be usable, don't have a 1911 to check fit.

Hey Doug have you ever thought about a corian machine top/spoilboard? I bet it would be very $$$ to ship that stuff but I would like to ditch my MDF top

Would be a $$ beast to ship, I'm sure.

By chance I have thought about that before, looks like this would be the perfect opportunity for doing just that, thanks for reminding me.
Can't think of any downsides, and wouldn't need to be surfaced.

I have been using a custom corian jig for a couple years to hold most of my projects, corian spoilboard would be awesome.

Chuck, here is a thread about how I ditched my MDF spoilboard and replaced it with Corian: http://www.camheads.org/showthread.php?t=5990

Sorry Doug, don't mean to hijack the thread but it is related to corian.

No prob at all, this is a meandering, unspecific thread anyhow.

I was going to put a corian sheet on top of the factory board, now you've got me thinking that should come out as well, so I'll have to plan how to proceed.
Not well versed in metal framing, maybe .5 corian on .5 corian would be an option, I have more than enough for that to happen.

This guy even gave me a few corian adhesive kits, so the top sheet could be fastener free, they would be bonded as if 1 good as bolts. That would bring it up from the frame 1", I believe the factory mdf sheet is .8, so right in the ballpark there.
I would actually gain Z from my present configuration, which is 2 .8 sheets stacked.
