Default Recoil Headstock

This is just a quick video showing the Cobra headstock and the new threaded shaft that Dan made.

So is Dan making these for Camaster now? Do I see Dan or Joey to outfit my Cobra recoil with this? I'm just about ready to tackle using the recoil for the first time and this looks pretty useful.

What diameter range can I clamp with this headstock? I assume the big advantage with this is that you can clamp a workpiece instead of screwing it down? It also looks like this might do a better job centering the stock. Hey am I writing a marketing brochure here? I've haven't used my recoil yet but the current headstock looks awkward to use. My most common use is likely to be 4x4 and 6x6 square post stock.

I attached a couple of photos of my recoil head. It was really dusty but when I cleaned it up and took a picture again, I realized the dust gave a better depth and view to the shape, so using both photos.

Dan, can you PM me a quote on one of your headstocks? My Cobra X3 is from 2008 but I believe the recoil is from 2010. It is Mick's original Cobra X3 and he had the recoil added when he bought it used back in 2010.

Dan,

Ditto what Rich said. Please PM me aprice on what it takes and what and how to remove to send to you. My rotary was installed this year in March and it has the plexiglass curved enclosure.

Rich,

That is the older style headstocks that Camaster installed before I started making them. They have threads already, but with no way to lock it for rotation in both directions, Camaster was drilling and pinning the faceplate on..."I THINK"....

I know that the new ones are made to fit on the same rails as the old ones were...but I can't tell you if they were the same ratio, stepper motors ect.
I would really have to suggest you get with them and ask as they know much more about the old vs new and can answer the questions that I can't.

Sorry I can't be more help....but I make the rotaries to thier spec's and they even supply the gear that goes inside....

Dan

Tony,

That sounds like a rotary I know a lot more about. Basically just unbolt the stepper motor and take the rotary head off the rails and send me it bare. you can keep the faceplate, clear plexi and all....I will even send you the original shaft back.

You do know that all I do is install a new shaft with threads...and then like Mick, you buy the adapter and chuck you want to fit up?

Dan

OK, I misunderstood based on an old June post along with Mick's post "This is just a quick video showing the Cobra headstock and the new threaded shaft that Dan made." I assumed both were from you.

I'll ping Camaster and see if they have a solution for my older recoil.
