Default I made me a nice Magnetic Dust Boot (Files Attached)

I was being driven crazy by the unimaginitive Black Dust booth that came with my New Panther. I saw a lot of $150 magnetic boots online, but I decided to just make one myself.

I wanted a smaller one that would fit my machine, and minimize left hand table suction loss.

So I made this one:(below)

I used 1/2" acrylic, and got the rest of the stuff from Mcmastercarr.com

4" to 3" vacuum reducer part # 2221K32
Brush Strip part # 7900T5
rare earth Magnets with countersink #4 screw hole part # 5862K14

The countersink magnets are one polarity, so a second set will not stick to them and be able to be screwed in. i designed mine with 1/4" magnets on the opposite side, but they didn't work like I planned, so i just used a washer, which worked fine, but I'm going to make a second layer, and pocket 1/2" magnets in the next one, and sandwich the two.. this will also make up for the 1/2"-ish gap between the bottom of the bit and the bottom of the brush.

the brush is pressed into the pocket, then I ran a bead of hot melt glue.. It works perfectly!

one of my reasons for using washers was also that It makes a small air passage between the 2 pieces.. this increases the air flow which allows faster air flow which picks up more chips.

I attached the design files.. if anyone wants them, you can make your own mods, or just cut one out.. i just thought I'd share. Not like everyone here can't make one, but hey! I already did the work, so i figured I'd share. you'll have to make a couple small changes for your machine probably, but you can easily re-size the whole thing for any router or spindle.

enjoy!

Yeah, You'll want a removable dust boot. The one they send you is nice, and it works, but it's sized for a shop vac, and it's kind of awkward. If you have a regular dust collection system, it'll probably have a 4" hose. I reduce it to 3 to concentrate it a bit more.

My laser came from Camaster.. I'd call michael in support if you got it from them. I'm sure those guys can fix you up! Is your's a cutter? or an x/y alignment laser? Mine is for X/Y. But i'm jonesing for a laser cutter one way or another.

Default Quick Disconnect X3 Dust Boot

Having an X3 and thinking of a way I could have a quick change dust boot was a challenge but being an RVír I came up with a way to make that happen!
