Default Warranty

I may have posted this here before, but I can't find it ........Anyway ...

One of the best decisions I've ever made in business was to offer a great warranty. Those of you who see my business page on Facebook will notice that I do a lot of refinishing.
When I first started out, everyone's question was "how long will it last?" ..... I really had no idea, but I knew that the UV & salt spray from a highway would impact the longevity. So, I raised my porices by 10% across the board & offered "first refurbishing, no time limit, no charge". Sounds "nuts", doesn't it ?

Well, it wasn't nuts, although I changed it to 5 years on Jan 1,2012, but only because I don't wish to spend my golden years refinishing signs that I did in my silver years for free. I now know how long they'll last....

Anyway, I'm still refinishing signs for free, & it's not a burden. Attached is one I made in 2004 that I just refinished.

There are ongoing advantages to this concept ..... my signs weather well, & it's generally over 10 years before I get one back. So, often customers forget about you , but when their sign gets refurbished back to "like new", there's always a "wow", & probably over 50% of the time this leads to new business, either directly from them or by their referral.

2nd refurbishing, they have to pay for. Less than 30% of signs EVER come back .... businesses close or change their name, cottages get sold, names change, whatever reason . Point is, I'm not losing money on this .........

This is the oldest one yet, coming back for a "warranty" re-finish. 19 years & 3 months.
I've done over 1000 dimensional signs since this one.
The border & back were done in Sikkens Cetol. There wasn't much left of it, but it still put up a fight in the removal process. The background color was a Sikkens solid colour stain, which was still in great shape, but had faded badly. The pickerel ( walleye) & the lettering were good old leaded 1-shot, also in reasonably good shape. It wasn't until after 2004 that 1-shot went to hell in a handcart.............
The Cetol was apparently showing its age at 5 years, but it took the owner 14 years to get around to bringing it back.
This pic is how it looked before I started the reno. I'll post progress pics .....

Even at 19+ years, that sign looks pretty darn good! LOL I'm sure it will be looking like brand new once "the master" does his thing... ;)

If I could make a new sign that looked half as good as a 19 yr old TR sign, well...I would be kinda proud of myself. Nuff said.
