Default Double checking feeds and speeds for aluminum

Hello,

I'm cutting some plates in .06 to .125 aluminum (5052-H32). I'm using an Onsrud caribde 1/8" O flute cutter. I just want to check my feeds and speeds.

The SFM from Onsrud is 600-1000 FPM. For an 1/8 bit at 600 FPM I get 19,200 rpm. That seems high but maybe not.

With a tooth load range of .002-.004, if I use .003 and run at 19,200 rpm I get a feed rate of 57.6 IPM.

Do those seem reasonable or should I back down on the RPM and feed? I'm running a Milwaukee router and not a spindle.

I would do 2 passes in the .06 material and 3 passes in the .125.

Thanks,

Kyle

Default

Hello,

I ran the part using 18000 rpm and 54 IPM feed and it came out good. I'll experiment with the feed as well.
