ER20 Tool Holders

The upgraded spindle options for the Stinger series state that it has ER20 collets. My question is regarding the FTC option in conjunction with the ER20 collets. I assume it has the ability to have several collets preloaded with different tools and its just a push of a button to eject one tool and load another. Does it need to then measure this other tool with the FTC or does it have the ability to save parameters of tool 1, 2, 3 etc and you just tell it which one it has every load?

You will need to measure every time you change tools. The er20 is just a collet. It only holds the tool tightly when it is tightened into the spindle with the collet nut.

Eb...
The system you describe is manual use of an ATC spindle with tool holders or some of the "quick change" spindles that use tool holders.

Standard, or single tool spindles require use of wrenches to loosen the collet nut for bit changes similar to a hand held router.

Quick change spindles add a few thousand dollars to a machine price, ATC 3 times that much.

My bad...I didn't know that the Stinger is offered with an ATC spindle or spindle with tool holders. That's a nice improvement since I was shopping.
