I'll look for some foam sanding pads. The concern is the fine detail carving. Some of it isn't very deep.

I think the important part is, that it sits above the surface of the table so, the material rests on the gasket for a seal, and the vacuum can pull the material down. Maybe I'm incorrect?

It's actually one solid piece that is engraved. Dado's give the illusion of separate boards. The blue cross bars are set in a dado. This can be seen in the side view below, along with dimensions.

I'm not sure it's worth upgrading the graphics card. Hard telling how long the computer will be...

Although not as good a deal as free, I just found a fabricator that uses 1", 1.25", 1.5", and 2" thick cast acrylic.
I can purchase it for a $1 a lb. I'm working on getting a couple hundred lbs.
