A single pass slot is not affected by cut direction. The deeper the cut, the more it might pull into the conventional side, but the slot width should not change.

If you're not in a hurry, V-Carve it, then brush a heavy coat of epoxy into the carved areas. When cured, carve it again, about .005" deeper.

The carved areas will be smooth as glass.
