Aluminum is an excellent conductor, not sure why you think otherwise. Thats why its often used on electrical terminals when weight is a factor. If its anodized, its no longer conductive on surface.

fwiw regarding xy table alignment - the laser on my pt404 was able to align for the y axis travel only. in other words, i can move the gantry in y travel and the laser will stay aligned to a point. the x axis is off from the travel, so i don't use it there.

the intersection however, is spot on after making the adjustment.

I use a v bit and made a little punch hole in the spoilboard with the spindle. Then I adjusted the laser offset macro coordinates to match it.

I don't think they are supposed to be super accurate, I think they are just to help you get close and parallel with the gantry.

If you want to make a bracket, you might try derlin.
