Default Price on Baltic birch plywood

Iím just curious on what people are paying for 1/2Ē Baltic birch in the 5x5 sheets. I know different regions are going to vary. I was calling around today because my normal supplier didnít receive their shipment yet. I pay about $28 a sheet there. So I called the same supplier another 75km farther away in a bigger city and their price is $48!! They said it was supply and demand. Yikes. I am really thinking of buying 10 lifts at $28 and slowly increasing the costs of our products. Nothing is ever simple; is it?!

Default Pric

I buy 3/8Ē Baltic birch by the skid several times a year. I order grade BB/b and I pay around $20-22 per sheet. Lower grades will be cheaper.
That higher price does not seem like a wholesale price.
One problem with this material is that the ports are often frozen in during winter and prices can fluctuate. Also Iíve heard that they can have a lot of it in the port of Los Angeles and hold back on shipping until demand raises the price. Thatís from my local sales rep.

Buckle up! There will be significant price increases in all panels import and domestic since the Department of Commerce and International Trade Commission imposed 206% tariffs on Chines hardwood plywood imports. Domestic mills have increased their prices 30% and their order files are out up to 8 weeks. The only feasible sources for hardwood import panels are Cambodia (repacked Chinese product probably) Vietnam (eucalyptus cores) and Indonesia (some crazy platform options including rubber wood which is very heavy and falcatta that is to soft to hold screws). China birch panels are still coming but with a radiatta pine veneer which is only good for painting. Unfortunately it will be a couple of years before new supply chains are built to service the cabinet industry.. This subject keeps me up at night since I buy about 300 trucks of hardwood panels per year and am having a heck of a time keeping up!

Right you are, this trade war has no good outcome for Us anytime soon, it will be the Americans who raise the prices not the Imports.

1/2” BB is going to jump from about $30 to about $80 per sheet in my area. Something about a shortage in Russia. But I wasn’t really listening after he said $80! I’m gonna give Putin a call to see if we can work out a deal. LOL

if someone is quoting $80 that is downright profiteering! actual costs have only moved a couple of $ but will probably see a steady climb.

$80 a sheet is outrageous! We stocked up and bought close to 200 sheets at $31 a couple weeks ago. For what we do that should last 6 months or so. Hopefully things get better by then.

So far I've seen my 3/8" 5x5 sheets go up $1 a sheet.
I only buy baltic birch or domestic maple veneered solid core sheets.
According to my rep, there have been some price increases on all domestic ply.
I guess they figure they don't have to compete with chinese made ply so the prices are being raised.

I suspect I'll see higher prices on BB in the near future.
