Default HDU Memorial Garden Sign

A friend requested a garden memorial sign recently...they lost their adult son to an apartment fire a few years ago. This is what I came up with...the heart was refined with hand tools and a "100 grit gouge". :)

Beautiful!
Hand tools and a gouge...could you be a “budding” TR in the making?

I ran the 90º V bit around the heart to relieve the edge and remove excess material, but just like with TR's upcoming training project (I'm attending the event in Suffolk VA) where he contours the coffee beans, the heart needed some attention to get the rounded feeling and fix the "v" at the top to look right. What was interesting about this piece is that I started with a scrap of 1.5" HDU and just layered it down as a one-piece project. I'm happy with it outside of some of the paint aspects, but from the viewing distance between their kitchen windows and the garden, the minor surface things will not be noticeable. I need to invest in some "proper" primer... ;)

I bent the metal stand from a piece of mild steel 5/16" round stock from the 'borg.

Very special, I'm sure they love it.
Nice techniques using one solid piece of HDU.

I seriously doubt I'll ever get anywhere close to your level TR and just getting paid work is a challenge around here for signs because their is more than one truly excellent makers nearby. I'll take what I can get, of course, but I'm doing a variety of work including furniture, equestrian tack storage and other equestrian items, custom sized photo panels and specialty frames, etc. Not all of that is off the CNC, too.

But what I do like about the sign work is it brings me back to some of my "art" affections. I'm really looking forward to learning some more from you in a few weeks in Suffolk!
