Default Paradise box - Tribute to a General

I have been working on a paradise box for a tribute to a Retired Brigadier General for a while.

My wife moved her Mother into a very nice assisted living facility in our town about 4 months ago and I met this terrific guy one day while visiting her. He turned 98 this month and talking to him is like talking to someone thatís 50, not 98. After several months talking to him I discovered he flew missions in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He retired as a General in the Air Force in 1979 after joining the Army in 1942 as a young man. He was transferred to the Air Force in 1947 when it was split off from the Army. This guy has had a terrific career serving our country, and in my opinion is one of our great American heroes. He is so humble he gives all his success to his men which I found out was over 16,000 under his command. I saw him shed a tear once when hearing ďAmerica the BeautifulĒ, and he gets choked up when discussing the Vietnam wall, and thinking of the men lost in multiple wars protecting this great country.

He wrote a bio about his life and on the last page he had a summary of his life which I carved inside the lid of his box. In his Bio he refers to himself as Mr. Lucky so look at the formula he created to describe oneís luck inside the lid of the box.

Iím going to give him the box this weekend.

Mark

Mark, I dont have the correct words to express how wonderful this gift is that you made for such a true American hero. The craftsmanship is beautiful, but the sentiment is so very much more. Very well done, sir! You will most likely see a tear shed when "Mr Lucky" receives this. Kudos to you for what you've done to one from The Greatest Generation!

PS...Im curious how you did the picture!

Thanks very much for the kind words. This project is certainly one that I will never forget. I've done quite a few Paradise boxes all most all were gifts. At this point in my life I get much more enjoyment giving work away then anything else I do and in this case it was fantastic.

I tried to do the picture on the CNC but never got it where I was satisfied so I went to a guy in town that has a laser and he did it for me. I have been trying for quite a while to get some results like I've seen on the Vectric forum but no joy yet. Attached is the same photo done on my machine in aspire that I didn't use.

Mark,
For someone that talks as much as I do, I am almost without words to express. You have been so richly blessed to have been able to share with such a national treasure. It breaks my heart we live in a society that seems to worship "Kardashian" yet belittle the contribution of our warriors. Before I get on my soapbox and believe me when I tell you it is a tall one, let me just express a heartfelt thanks on behalf of the rest of us that you would take the time to do something for someone that has contributed so much to so many. I wish I could be there with you when you present this and it is probably best I am not as I wouldn't have a dry eye. Please, on behalf of those of us that do appreciate, express our heartfelt gratitude to a true American hero.

Mark,
I don't believe that I can top what was said above about the General and your paradise box. All I can say is that he is mighty "lucky" to have a friend like you.

Thumbs up Ditto

Mark, your box not only celebrates the General's life but also speaks volumes about your character. The box is outstanding and you obviously put a lot of thought into it. I salute you.

"Thank you for your service" is always nice to hear from folks. You went above and beyond with your demonstration of gratitude and respect. The gift is for him personally but your selfless thought is much appreciated by all Veterans.

It is inspiring to me that there are some folks like yourself, who really do care about our Country and those who fought to keep it free. You made my day! Thank you.
