My duct was a plunge. Maybe I didn't do enough shopping, but I ended up getting duct actually rated for vacuum. Ended up being about $100 for a 25 ft roll. It's very heavy duty though.. should last for years. I'm was debating between 2.5 and 3", and rolled the dice on the 2.5" based on some other hardware I have on hand. Good news is I've been getting good CFM. There seems to be no easy way to calculate what minimum diameter you need, just trial and error. My 1.25" ID vac hose pulled ZERO CFM with this same blower, so I was fortunate it's working with the 2.5".

Something like this is what you need, along with a larger container

Some guys go for 30 gal, my thinking is that would be quite a bear to handle once it gets loaded so I went with a 20 gal "Brute" by Rubbermaid.

Many years ago and a galaxy far far away! Better homes wood magazine had plans to make a cyclone dust collector with use of a blower from pen-state industries. I made it didn't cost very much very easy to make. I did use their discharge filter recommendation but the cost and efficiencies wasn't worth it so I changed that to a garbage can with a bag filter on top works great. I also have all the gates wired that when that gate opens it turns on the collector.

Here the update. The tub is 70 qt. I cut a hole and fit in the funnel. I needed to add some duct tape inside to make the funnel complete (no ledge), and I made a baffle for it. It's now working very well. Seems to vast majority of the dust goes down the funnel.

Here's a video of the front end I made.

I gets most of the dust facing this block. It gets pretty much all of it when facing the spoilboard.

This thing is working really well. I now have built a box around the motor. The three openings fit airfilter which is quickly clogged up with ABS dust which smelled pretty bad. In light of that, I ran a duct to the outside of the shop. I can switch between the two. If I'm cutting plastic, I think I vent outside. My homemade separater is working well. I found a calculator online and made the clear funnel out of flat plastic.. worked great. With the vent outside, this thing is really quiet.

This thing keeps getting better.

I made a table for my chopsaw / dust box for the DC.

Inside the box is a Rockler dustbag then the second stage is 4 furncae filters.

Also, on the far side of the saw, I have two ports. I can outlet the DC into the box or the second port goes to outside the shop (through wall inside box). I vent outside when cutting things other than wood.

I pull the hose off the machine and attach to chopsaw when I use it.

Chips fall down into clear bucket so I know when to change

working pretty good.

Next upgrade will be replace the big black tub (with thien baffle) with a home made cyclone separator. Like the cone, I'll do the cylinder and cone out of thin flat plastic. It will be interesting to see if it works better than the current.
