we make them just under 1/16" then engrave and cut them on our laser.

Are you using plywood. I know model airplane places sell 1/16 and 1/32 birch plywood for a lot less than that stuff linked to on Amazon. Seems like solid wood might be prettier, but also more prone to warping or cracking.

Try wood on wood veneer. The back layer is perpendicular to the face.
If your spoil board was newly surfaced and you have good vacuum hold down. It probably would work. The 500 pcs you could get out of a 4x8.

no, we use solid wood. doesn't warp as bad as you might think. also make business card same way.

OP you may fair better to prep the stock thin first, then carve. I would start thick, maybe 1/8", then work your way down until it stops working.
