I went ahead and ordered the pressure switch from Camasters. Michael gave me instructions on wiring it (old touch plate has 1 wire, new switch has 2). I will try to install this weekend and post back. Price was $445.
I laid the switch and a postage scale flat on a table and pushed the switch on the scale. Switch contacts made at exactly 1.5 pounds. It appears to be very well made.

Metrol makes some super fine measuring switches. There are knock offs in the 3-400 range. These are used widely on metal cutting VMCs. Not sure how easy they would be to wire into a Stinger.

I get sub thou repeatability on my rebuilt conductive FTC in testing, but in reality, it can still move around a couple thou, not sure, could be debris or maybe stepper counts. I recheck manually when the cut is critical.

I'd calibrate .010" above spoil to start, but looks like lots of good advice here. Good luck.
