Default Z Axis Accuracy Issues

Hello,

Im noticing an .008" difference between when I shut the machine off for the day and when I fire it up the next day. Also, this issue can occur between runs as well. Any thoughts? It seems like Im able to re-calibrate the tool and things will be good to go for some an entire run. But something seems to be happening between jobs and especially overnight.

In other words, I can calibrate the switch at Z zero, shut everything down. Next morning, jog to Z zero and the bit will drive into the spoil board about .008.

Thank you,

Ryan

One thing that jumps up, is make sure the tool is tight in the compression collet. I have had it before, and turned out the collet was not tight enough.

Ryan,
While the machine is off, it can and probably does move. I assume you are initializing each morning when you power up? If not, that might make a difference. Doesn't explain why it might change during the day. Maybe you have a couple different issues?

I would definitely follow up with the great tech support guys. Please post what you find back here so that it may benefit others in the future. Thanks!

Ryan...
With no air to the counterbalance set a dial indicator on the top of the Z plate and using a 1 by 2 or similar, pry up and release a few times to see if there is any play in the Z mechanics

Default Thanks for the input

Ive reached out to Camaster and they gave me a laundry list of things to try. In addition, I had an electrician out to the shop to double check wiring. The only thing that seems to help right now is having no dust collection which would point toward a static issue. Ill keep you posted as I continue troubleshooting.

Gary, there was no play to speak of when testing the gantry. There was a difference in gantry height with air on vs off. I think the difference was .003 if I remember correctly.

Thank you again to all who have contributed, will keep you posted.

Ryan

Ryan, if you have any kind of plastic in your DC connection to the machine, including the hose, you need to do the grounding dance big-time. I think Gary has a video about that, if I'm remembering clearly. I used a short piece of plastic pipe from my Kent shoe to the hose and "double grounded it", both inside and out to the drain in the flex hose which in turn is grounded to my metal duct work. I even put a drain through the flex hose for additional grounding insurance.

That said, I'm sure with both Camaster's help and assistance from others, you'll get to the bottom of the issue you're having.
