Default Armana Spektra bits

Just wondering if anyone is using the spectra bits and what you think of them?

Overall I like Amana CNC bits. I have a number of their 2/3D tapered bits with zirconium nitride or ZRN coating. They are pricey but they cut and stay sharp. Of course I am not a production shop so that plays into it.

I have not tried the Spektra as yet but I am a little suspicious that it is marketing hype since they already had the ZRN bits. From my reading they seem to do the same thing. The ZRN bits keep their champagne color for easy identification from standard carbide bits. The spektra loses its color when used so you would have to mark them accordingly.

My Son is a PhD in material science and specializes in metals and nanotechnology as it applies to materials. He is in Europe vacationing with his family but when he returns I will ask him to look at these claims and see what his opinion is or he can reach out to his community. I will report back when I get a definitive answer and translate into something we can all understand. Usually I get more information than I want or need.

I tried a few 1/2" Spektra compression bits, and they work very well. They were comparable to coated Onsrud bits that I've used, imo.

The only problem with coated bits is that if you get them resharpened, you lose the coating on the cutting edge, and they no longer last as long.
